1. Put the student's welfare above all else.
    

2. Vigorously advocate for and defend the rights of BTU members in the classroom, school, district, state and the nation.
    

3. Provide the most current research-based professional development opportunities for the growth and advancement of BTU members. The Progressive Caucus will encourage BTU members to participate in QuEST, PSRP Educational Conference and any other professional organizations professional development.
    

4.  Work in collaboration and mutual respect with Baltimore City Public Schools management to preclude contentious relations, which have characterized most school districts-union relationships across the country.
    

5. Continue to work for and monitor the fair treatment and compensation of BTU members at all levels of the professional spectrum. 
    

6. Coordinate efforts with BCPS for a more efficient processing of requests, documentations, certificate renewals and other interactions BTU members might have with staff and management with BCPS.
    

7. Advocate for adequate local, state and federal funding to insure quality education for students in Baltimore City Public Schools.
    

8. Oppose tuition tax credit, education vouchers, tax reform schemes which cripple public education or place control of pubic education in the hands of private or for profit organizations.
    

9. Advocate for equal rights of all people and an end to all forms of discrimination.
    

10.  To oppose any anti-union propaganda and legislation.

This declaration is the Baltimore Teachers Union Progressive Caucus' covenant with all BTU members, and pledge to emphatically support the principals expressed above.
